Kids Home International's Programs

Human Services

This entails providing street kids with a place they can call home as well basic needs such as clothing, food and clean water.

  • Most of these kids live off food collected on garbage dump sites
  • They have very little clothing if any through daily begging on the streets. Most of these kids have resorted to extortion on the streets in order to sustain themselves. They are prone to commit criminal activities due to their need for basic sustenance.
  • Offer them hope through family- type of love and support.

Expected Outcome

  • Emotional stability and trust from the kids
  • Changing Lives and creating futures where there was none

Education

Equip the kids with a new chance in life by instituting a curriculum that helps them learn how to read and write . The program will be three part:

Elementary program serving pre- school kids, ranging from ages 3- 5 yrs.

Middle School program will cater for ages 6 and up. This program will seek to offer a safe structured environment that will demand discipline, good attendance and respect

Junior and Senior programs will be an alternative to high school for those kids of age who might not be able to cope with traditional school setting. At this stage, kids are offered counseling, support groups and cultural activities.

Extra-Curriculum Activities

  • Offer sporting events that will encourage the kids to exercise their physical potential is sports such as track & field, basketball, soccer etc.
  • Offer music courses with music instruments

Expected Outcome

  • Kids will progress sufficiently through the grades and graduate to post secondary education
  • Have necessary skills that would enable them transition into the society

Health Services

  • Establish a health services program that will cater for medical necessities
  • Identify HIV infected kids and provide medical care. Improved care and support will allow longer life and higher quality.
  • Provide health education, self hygiene etc.
  • Institute health promotion strategies to decrease high mortality rates. Immunizations, AIDS prevention education.
  • Educate and motivate the kids on the power of self-determination and practical methods to prevent teen pregnancies and the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs

Expected Outcome

  • Kids will understand the need for responsible sexual behavior and healthy personal relationships
  • Know how and practice abstinence and outcomes of using alcohol ,tobacco, drugs and the outcome on their personal health.

Spiritual

Design a religious studies programs that help the kids spiritually.

  • Encourage and provide guidance to the kids in spiritual matters
  • Provide counseling in spiritual matters that would provide a healthy and balanced life for the kids. Most of these kids have completely lost trust in society and so by doing this, we hope to open new possibilities for them in the spiritual realm.
  • Establish relationships with churches around the community so that the churches can offer support.

Placements

  • Design programs that set the kids for adoption.
  • Provide the kids who have successfully completed the program a career path in which they can transition to.
  • Try to partner the kids with mentors who can provide the kids with direction .This can be through personal sponsorship or group sponsorship there and abroad
  • Set up a system that monitors the kids after they successfully complete the program and have moved on to employment or adoption.
